In 3 days from September 16, 2022, to September 18, 2022, Tech-Vina successfully organized the seminar "Contributing ideas to develop star anise in Bao Lac district, Cao Bang province”

Tech-Vina and farmers in Bao Lac, Cao Bang

Bao Lac is a mountainous district in Cao Bang province, close to the Vietnam - China border, with rugged mountainous terrain. For the past 30 years, with the support of the 327 forest conversion project and the 5 million ha forest project, Bao Lac has been approached to plant star anise to produce essential oils. Over the years of development, star anise has become one of the key plants in the local economy, bringing a stable life to many ethnic people here.

In 2020-2021, the Covid pandemic seriously affects the global economy, the star anise oil market is not out of that. The China-Vietnam border is closed and strictly protected, the cross-border trading of essential oil cannot continue, and the production of star anise oil is stagnant. Faced with that situation, local leaders have found ways to contact the output consumers for farmers and Tech-Vina has stood out to buy star anise oil for the farmers here.

From July 2022, after researching the raw material area and related factors, Tech-Vina has officially sold star anise oil products. In a series of activities with this product, from September 16-18, 2022, we had a meeting with farmers in Bao Lac district, Cao Bang province to contribute ideas to develop star anise.

The seminar was attended by 65 delegates who are Coc Pang commune officials, star anise growers and distillers in Coc Pang, Thuong Ha, Bao Toan communes, local traders who purchase star anise oils, and Tech-Vina. Here, Tech-Vina shared our experience when developing cassia products and the direction for star anise products in the future, instructing distillers on effective methods of distilling star anise oil by taking advantage of reflux and how to control the quality of star anise oil to ensure it meets the standards of the US and EU markets. A special feature of the seminar was that the growers and distillers star anise were mostly young people, aged between 25 and 40 years old, all of whom were enthusiastic, create questions, and contributed ideas and their opinions. From that, Tech-Vina can fully understand the daily difficulties, and concerns that they are facing, to find a solution together.

Delegates contribute ideas at workshop

After the seminar ended, a party between Tech-Vina and all delegates was held. At the party, all geographical and cultural differences were erased, and the people in Bao Lac were extremely friendly and likable, with unique cultural features. The crisp laughter, the cheers echoing through the mountains, and the warm cups of wine seemed to mark a good start for the cooperation between Tech-Vina and the farmers here.
