Cassia Cinnamomum is a tropical tree species suitable in humid areas, with a lot of rain, with rainfall greater than 2000mm/year, prefers sandy clay soil, easy to drain, soil over 1m deep, moist, cool, grows on rocks sour magma (mica schist, clay schist...). Techvina Joint Stock Company has been together with farmers for more than 13 years to develop cassia growing areas.
Morphological characteristics of Viet Nam cassia
Perennial woody plant, the average height of 18-20m, diameter at chest height can be 40-50cm, the trunk is straight and round, foliage is relatively narrow, and the bark is gray-brown. The bark and leaves have a pleasant aroma. Leaves grow near opposite, oblong up to 20cm, 4-6cm wide. The leaf has 3 veins typical of cinnamon leaves. The flowers are like myrtle clusters, the top of the branches are networked with small white flowers. The fruit is 12-15 cm long.
Ecological characteristics of the cassia tree
Cassia is a tropical tree species suitable in humid areas, with a lot of rain, with rainfall greater than 2000mm/year, prefers sandy clay soil, easy to drain, soil over 1m deep, moist, cool, grows on rocks sour magma (mica schist, clay schist...). When young, they like shade, in the natural forest the tree regenerates under the canopy of the mother tree. It also requires a lot of light when growing up.
Cassia planting season in Vietnam
There are two cassia planting seasons a year, spring in February–March, and Autumn in August–September. Depending on the weather in each region, the North focuses on planting cassia in the early spring months, the Central provinces plant in the autumn when there is a lot of rain, the soil is moist, the weather is mild and the hot wind can be avoided in the summer.
The sowing cassia seeds technique
Seeds: Farmers use seeds of 15 to 17 year old cassia trees. 10,000 potting soil requires 4 kg of seeds.
Preparation: Cassia seeds are incubated for 1 day so that the seeds are enough moist.
Making potting soil: The soil is carefully made, mixed with phosphate fertilizer and powdered lime, and put into a pot of soil size 10x5cm.
Sowing & nursery: cinnamon seeds are put into the pot, after about 1 month the seeds will sprout. Nursery seedlings 1-1.5 years before planting in the hills. Seedling is 40-60 cm, root diameter is 4-5 mm.
The growing cassia trees techniques
The soil needs to be dug into a hole with dimensions of 40x40x40cm.
Place the potted plant in the middle of the hole, use a sharp knife to make a slight incision to remove the plastic pot (do not break the pot), cultivate the soil around the pot, compact the root, and water the plant enough moisture. Use straw or mulch to keep the soil moist. When the tree takes root and grows well, put a stake to keep the tree from falling through rain and storm.
Fertilization techniques
Fertilizing: Each hole is about 5-10kg of well-rotted bell manure
Dressing:
- Can dressing the seedlings after 15-20 days, farmers apply 1 time.
– Use mixed fertilizers of NPK for irrigation
Do not water on hot sunny days, at noon. It is best to fertilize on shady or drizzly days.
Cassia care techniques
Watering: Water continuously for the first 15-20 days, then only water when the soil is dry.
Transplant:
- After planting for 5-7 days, the dead trees need to transplant immediately.
– The transplanted plant needs moist watering and shading
Weeding: Farmers need to weed regularly to avoid weeds competing for nutrients with cassia trees and at the same time avoid pests and diseases.
Pruning: Pruning dry branches, low branches that cannot photosynthesize, cutting down trees with poor appearance, crooked trees, diseased trees, topless trees, many trunks, stunted trees, and scattered trees.
The weather in recent years has been erratic and extreme. In stark contrast to the season of the crop in 2022, due to excessive rainfall, the hydroelectric reservoirs on the Red River flooded, causing many areas of the riverside alluvial land to be flooded. But this year, lack of rainfall, basil is slow growth and early aging.
Month
After nearly 2 months of planting, basil has not grown favorably, is underdeveloped, and is early flowering due to the less rainy weather. This year, there are many earthworms that bite the basil plant. This type of worm is difficult to kill because they dig their nests deep in the ground. The damaged area accounts for about 20% of the area and has been newly planted by farmers. Caption ...
